SERP Preview provides an easy way to rewind and review your historical data. This feature allows you to see how your historical rankings compare to your competitors.

On this page:

Setting up the SERP Preview

Here’s how you can use SERP Preview on your Nightwatch account:

  • Click the SERP Preview icon (little chart) on the right-hand corner of a keyword at the keywords list:

  • You can easily select a specified date and timeframe by clicking on the different points of the graph:

Screen Recording 2021-06-23 at 11.47.11.25 AM

You can display the SERP of the current day, by setting the date in the date picker to Today.

When looking at SERP Preview, some other metrics that you can display in the graphs and are collected from other services could still be processing for the day. For that reason, we display yesterday's SERP when choosing any other pre-set date.

Monitor changes with SERP Preview

You can monitor changes in your rankings, meta description, and title on search result pages for every search result. This will help you understand how ranking text affects your results and enables you to see how your competitors' rankings changed.

Once you open the SERP Preview, you can select a previous date to compare against the current SERP Preview results:

Dates available for selection in the calendar are available from the date the keyword was added to 1 day before the current result.

For newly added keywords with no prior day results, you won't be able to select a day in the calendar. You will see this notification:

1. Monitor the ranking position changes at the very left corner

If there's a change in the page's ranking, there will be an arrow and number on the left to indicate that. When there's a green arrow pointing up, that means the page's rankings went up and when there's a red arrow pointing down, that means the page's rankings went down.

2. Monitor the changes in the title and meta descriptions
If there’s a change in the description, the old section is marked with a light-red background and the updated section with a light-green one. It also highlights words in dark red to indicate those words were removed and highlights words in dark green to indicate those words were added.

3. Results matching your domain will have a yellow background
