How often does Nightwatch refresh rankings?

Following the most efficient practices, Nightwatch will automatically refresh rankings once per day (in 24-hour intervals). Due to the highest accuracy mode that we support, multiple daily refreshes and on-demand updates are proved to be unnecessary.

Can I refresh rankings manually?

Our system determines the optimal time for updating the rankings, and all the rankings are refreshed on a regular daily basis. The reason why we don't encourage on-demand updates and custom update times is that they add to anomalies of the data when rankings are refreshed in irregular intervals. The best way to ensure the highest accuracy and reduce anomalies in the data is to ensure that all keywords are updated in a constant interval. That is one of the reasons why our tool is more accurate and preferred by most experts.

What is the search depth that Nightwatch scans?

By default, we track the top 100 results, but we also support tracking the top 200 results. To enable this mode, please get in contact with us.

How are keywords counted in Nightwatch?

The total number of keywords that come with each plan are limited on the  account  basis, not on the URL or domain basis. Besides, each keyword that you add with its own location settings counts as an individual keyword.

Why is Nightwatch more expensive than other trackers?

Nightwatch is more expensive due to the highest accuracy, which consumes more resources than the normal accuracy mode used by other trackers.

How do I retrieve my forgotten password?

Just click on the 'Forgot Password' link on the login page and we will send you the email to restore your access. In case you do not receive the email, please contact us on and we will help you out.

How can I add users to my account?

By default, we provide this feature on Pro and Custom accounts. 

  1. Click on your username and choose "Users" in the top-right menu,
  2. Click the "Add user" button,
  3. Enter the user's email and define his permissions,
  4. Click "Invite user."

How do I assign users to different projects?

You can set the following permissions:

  • Admin,
  • Limited access.

While admin has all the permissions to manage your account, users with limited access can only access the groups that you enable for them. In order to limit user's access to a subset of URLs and keywords, you may want to create the groups and assign them the URLs associated with a specific user.

Can I change desktop tracking to mobile without adding keywords again?

To assure there is no discrepancy in the data, you need to add your keywords again.

To track the desktop and mobile rank you will need to add all keywords twice, one with mobile and one with desktop setting. This is required as tracking a keyword with a different configuration requires us to track the keyword separately. 

I need to track more keywords than you have in your biggest plan. Do you provide custom plans?

We sure do. We provide custom plans for tracking more than 10,000 keywords. Just write us an email to and let us know how many keywords you would like to track and if you have any other special requirements. After that, we will provide you with the most suitable plan for you.

Do you provide any discounts?

We aren't running any discounts on monthly plans but we do on yearly plans: we offer 2 months off on all annual subscriptions. To get advantage of our yearly discount, just choose a yearly plan that fits your requirements. No coupon needed. 

Does Nightwatch generate scheduled reports?

It sure does! You can schedule reports from your URLs and View for you and your clients. You can easily access all reports in the top bar by selecting the Report icon.

Does Nightwatch have API?

We offer two API options and they require different handling, depending on the type of system you wish to build: Standard API and Partner API. For more information, please refer to the section: Standard and Partner API.

Can I upgrade my subscription at any time?

You can definitely upgrade your subscription at any time. 

  1. Log in to your account and click "Upgrade" in the navigation bar,
  2. Click the "Subscribe" button on the desired plan,
  3. Fill in your billing details and finalize your subscription.

Your pro-rate will be refunded automatically according to a number of days left of your previous subscription.

Does the number of keywords in the subscription plan refer to one website or to the entire account?

It refers to the entire account. You can distribute them accordingly through all your websites.

How can I reduce the price of a subscription plan?

You can change your billing plan from monthly to yearly and save 20% on your entire subscription!

What payment methods are available?

You can pay with a credit card and PayPal. For yearly subscriptions (Pro 10,000 +) you can wire transfer your payment.

Can I download invoices from my account?

All your invoices are available for a download on your account. Just click on your username in the top right corner and chose 'Invoices' from the drop-down.

Where can I change my payment method?

Click on the 'upgrade' button on the top bar and go to the 'Update Payment Method'. 

I signed up and I haven't received my confirmation email.

I would like to disable backlink discovery on certain profiles, how can I do that?

Nightwatch has a great feature where you can ignore the domains you wouldn't like to get backlinks from. All you need to do is to click on your website, go to its settings and under backlinks tab add those domains to 'ignore domains' field.

After that, you would need to manually delete the backlinks from the list by filtering them out by domain name and delete them in a batch. 

There is much more you can do with backlinks settings to fully control them and get only the ones that are important for you (you can pre-filter them, or even disable automatic discovery for any of your websites). You can check out Backlinks Tracking for more details.

How can I track keywords in other countries as well? I've selected one but I want to add a few other countries too?

Sure thing! With Nightwatch, you can track your rankings in different countries/cities/regions. To do so, you would need to add keywords for each country/city/region separately because each keyword with different settings would count individually since the system has to make separate queries for them, even if they are the same keywords.

For example: "personal attorney" tracked in the US, Canada, and Australia, would count as three separate keywords.

Why is my Local Pack not showing up?

Make sure you have:

  1. Registered a Google place and associated it with your website (if not, you can do it here:,
  2. In Nightwatch, you entered the exact place name in “Local Place name” in the URL's configuration.

You can do it if you select a URL in the sidebar and go to its settings. After you configure it, you can choose the Local Pack Rank column in the keywords list to display the rankings. If you are experiencing any further troubles, please write to us to and we will help you out.

Why do I get these error messages: base Keyword limit exceeded when I try to add new keywords?

You are getting this error message because you have reached the limit of keywords in your plan.

To add more keywords, you would need to upgrade to the bigger plan. To do so, please:

  1. Log in to your account and click "Upgrade" in the navigation bar,
  2. Click the "Subscribe" button on the desired plan,
  3. Fill in your billing details and finalize your subscription.

Can I track my Youtube channel in Nightwatch?

Sure thing! You can add your Youtube videos links or your Youtube channel link to Nightwatch. If you add the channel link, the tool will pull the data from all the videos in the channel. You can track them on Youtube and Google.
